Accuracy Rates in Field and Laboratory Studies There are only two eld studies that reported accuracy rates or where I could calculate those rates myself on the basis of the reported data (Esplin et al., 1998; Parker & Brown, 2000). Both studies showed very high accuracy rates (Table 8.3). However, as I discussed earlier, both studies had serious methodological aws, and I therefore prefer to disregard these results. All other studies that reported accuracy rates were laboratory studies. In these studies, the overall accuracy rates varied from 54% to 90%. One of the studies with a relatively low accuracy rate was Landry and Brigham s (1992) study. I have already given several reasons to explain their exceptional ndings. In addition, the coders were advised to use a decision rule whereby the presence of more than ve criteria equals a good indication of high credibility, and using decision rules is something that CBCA coders should not do. If I disregard their ndings, Table 8.3 reveals that accuracy rates for truths varied between 44% to 91% and accuracy rates for lies between 60% and 100%. The average accuracy rate for truths (70.81%) is similar to the accuracy rate for lies (71.12%). The average total accuracy rate in those studies is 70.47%.14 In studies where direct comparisons were made, accuracy rates for children and adults and for witnesses, victims, and suspects did not appear to differ from each other, further supporting the suggestion that CBCA assessments are not restricted to children s or witnesses statements.15

The ultimate motive for deletion of or tampering with fraud control information would be to prevent detection of fraud in order successfully to steal IPTV service Publicly available tools can be used to discover the existence of a DSLAM and potentially its vendor and version number, which can be used to search for known vulnerabilities that can be exploited to provide access to the DSLAM, thereby allowing unauthorized browsing of fraud control information 5453 IP Filters There is a threat of unauthorized management activity resulting in the deletion of IP filters Unauthorized access to the administrative console can be used to send commands over the management VLAN or compromised home network that delete the IP filters Unauthorized deletion of IP filters via a management command could occur as a result of an internal or external attack.

For an external attack, a break-in of the DSLAM would be required first, and then the attacker would delete the IP filters For an internal attack, it is most likely that a dishonest administrator would delete the IP filters One possible motive for deleting IP filters would be to allow access to a video stream without paying for it A forged multicast protocol (eg IGMP) message could be sent to the DSLAM, instructing it to delete IP filters for the purpose of allowing access to a video stream without paying for it Forged multicast protocol messages can originate from the home network environment or via injection into the broadcast TV VLAN or VOD VLAN..

There are a number of attacks that can be used to detect, retrieve or eliminate digital marks embedded in content carriers. Some of the most commonly used are as follows. (i) Lossy Compression This technique is a compression technique in which some amount of data is lost. During the process, the algorithm will attempt to eliminate or make redundant unnecessary information. MPEG codecs are based on this principle (also JPEG, H.26x and others) Some examples of lossy compression are: joint pyramid encoding; joint difference pyramid encoding; rate-minimising pyramid encoding; DCT coding of combined image blocks; pixel-based disparity map encoding; block-based disparity map encoding; pioneering block-based predictive encoding; compression using subsampling and transform coding.

design might be optimal if few or no employees have PDA devices. A very simple web site is likely to work well with a generic mobile design. On the other hand, a highly interactive application or a frequently used application like a browser or email client will be wellserved with a stylus version and different versions for various scrolland-select user interface paradigms. A good design program begins with an understanding of user goals and behavior. This type of information is not readily elicited in focus groups. Instead, contextual interviews and ethnographic research are better tools for understanding detailed user behavior and goals. Typical research activities within the product development process are illustrated in Figure 9.2. This chapter discusses these activities within the context of mobile application design.
