Each of the tool items should be connected to GtkToolButton s clicked signal with the exception of the separators. Also, you should connect the GtkEntry to activate, which will be emitted when the user presses the Enter key when the entry has focus.

Finally, we configure the upload progress template, which is shown to users after they click the Upload button. We display a progress bar using the supplied SlickUpload controls. If we wanted, though, we could show much more information, including the file count, current file being uploaded, upload speed, and time remaining. Our site, in figure 5.5, shows the progress bar and percentage complete.

We will now examine a couple examples of some concrete measurable security requirements and security goals that could be added when designing a system An example of an access control security requirement might be that only certain users should be able to do X, where X is some sensitive or critical operation In our previous example of Windows 98, only the administrators should be able to access the diagnostic mode The diagnostic mode may allow the entire contents of the hard disk to be viewed, and perhaps the system administrator is the only user that should be trusted with that level of access (Some might argue that even the system administrator should not be allowed that level of access, but that is one limitation of current Windows as well as other commonly used operating systems.

Note This application is only a design for a simple file browser that is meant to show you how to design applications with Glade 3. The code needed for the application to be more than just a design will be implemented in 13.

The file we chose was quite large, around 64 MB. A progress indicator is a great mechanism for providing users with feedback that their file is being uploaded. Without a progress bar, users receive no information on the progress of their upload, which leads many users to believe that the upload isn t being processed. They re liable to refresh the form or stop the upload. The final piece we need to implement is the action that we redirect to after the file upload is successful. We ll likely need to retrieve some sort of information about the file uploaded, especially if we want to store file metadata somewhere else for processing and viewing. In listing 5.9, our UploadResult action uses the SlickUpload UploadConnector class to retrieve the UploadStatus for the uploaded files. The UploadStatus class contains file metadata that we can then process as needed.

As for the tree view, you should connect it to row-activated. When a row is activated, the user will be shown more information about the file or will navigate to the chosen directory. A list of the widgets along with their signals and callback functions is provided in Table 10-1 so that you can easily follow along with this example.

Typically, we ll store file metadata in a database because we ll likely want to be able to show the user a list of uploaded files to download. With the file metadata in a database, we can show this information much more easily than trying to read the file information from the disk. In our example, we ll only display the metadata information in the view, as shown in listing 5.10.
